Jumping the Broom at 2nd Sunday
One of the unique cultural touches accompanying weddings these days is the tradition known as jumping the broom. Once a symbolic way for enslaved people in the American South to recognize their marriages, modern couples say that this tradition is a way to honor those who did it before them. After the nuptials are given, the couple kisses; they turn to the audience, jump the broom then walk down the aisle as a married couple. The idea is to sweep away the past and begin life anew as a married couple. Flowers By Vanessa will bring display brooms to 2nd Sunday on King Street. Take a look and order yours. Vanessa will be at 2nd Sunday in front of Fire Grill Asian Fusion at 293 King Street/aka best Pad Thai ever.
